54th Infantry, First State Color. The 54th regiment was recruited in August and September 1861, under the authority of Colonel Jacob M. Campbell. It was composed of men from Cambria, Indiana, Somerset, Dauphin, Lehigh, Northampton, and Jefferson counties. Governor Curtin presented he regiment its first state color on February 26, 1862 at the State Arsenal. The flag was badly damaged by fire during an attack in North Mountain, WV in late 1862, and a second one was received shortly after. The regiment was mustered out of service on July 15, 1865.

It was composed of men from Cambria, Indiana, Somerset, Dauphin, Lehigh, Northampton, and Jefferson counties. The national color was found rolled up within the remnant of the 54th's first state color.
